• About Papa Steve

In these pages I hope to reveal one American’s journey. I’m a professional in my late forties who grew up in conservative America. I’m husband to a beautiful wife, father to three great, adult children, and Papa to four, highly energetic grandsons. I no longer live in the world I grew up in. As I embrace many great aspects of the world of my children and grand children I hope to capture those moments here in these pages with glimpses of the world of my own childhood.

Part 1:
For love [...]

Sometimes there is no going back.

How do you pick up the threads of an old life?  How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back?  There are some things time cannot mend.  Some hurts that go too deep that have taken hold.

Saying Goodbye

It was August 25th, 2007.  We had just come back from a lovely cruise and received the word that my sister’s cancer had taken a turn . . .she was not doing well.  They were talking about different courses of treatment.  When I got home I called her and talked with her about some of [...]

A Father’s Love

I watched you enter this world and I was filled with joy.
I watched you find your way through childhood and I was filled with laughter.
I watched you grow into a young woman and I was filled with pride.
I walked with you down the isle and shared in your happiness.
I stood with you at the hospital [...]

Beware of unchecked love

Love is like water:
It brings life
It refreshes
It nourishes

Love, just like water, unchecked will:
Suffocate
Spoil
Rust
Flood
Destroy

Love, like a river, needs to be kept in its banks.  It needs to be controlled by:
Wisdom
Discernment
Self-control
Selflessness
Self-confidence
Courage

What does it feel like to be married for 29 years?

Love, along with gaining material possessions, is one of the central themes in our great culture. We spend large amounts of time trying to obtain it and even more time trying to define it.
I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts on love, why we desire it so badly, and why we stumble through [...]
